1) Hongda's BIG 5 cities for business in China's GPRD region
Widely known as one of China's leading economic regions and a major manufacturing center located in the Southern Chinese province of Guangdong, the PRD gets its name from China ́s 3rd longest river (after the Yangtze and the Yellow river), and the entire zone is formed by 9 cities, namely Guangzhou (the provincial capital also known historically as Canton), Shenzhen, Foshan, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Dongguan, four districts and counties of Huizhou and four districts and counties of Zhaoqing.
Collectively the region is a colossal economic powerhouse that overtook Tokyo as the world's largest urban area in terms of both size and population earlier this year, and is now home to more people than the countries of Canada, Argentina or Australia.

Over the last three decades, as China’s once-impoverished economy emerged into the world’s second-largest, the country has still failed to shed one aspect of its international reputation: that it can’t innovate. In January, former Hewlett Packard CEO and current Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina told an Iowa blogger: “I’ve been doing business in China for decades, and I will tell you that yeah, the Chinese can take a test, but what they can’t do is innovate.”

A China rep office is an excellent first port of call for companies who are doing business in China as it gives you a concrete presence there allowing your parent company to deal with local suppliers and customers, conduct market research , and have staff based in China.
However, a representative office has both benefits and limitations, and it's the latter that may cause you to look into how to set up a WFOE in China.
In order to understand whether your company needs to convert from a rep office to a WFOE we need to look at some of the features of each, and the process involved.

THE ONLY WAY to truly understand the Chinese business world is through regular visits, or even better extended stays and/or continuous presence. China is not a market (or more correctly, many markets) that will reward a lazy approach to business.
Videoconferencing a partner or visiting a trade fair won’t cut it. You need to allocate time and money to get a grip of the markets’ specific dynamics and culture. Only then can you understand the way that business in China is done both in the country as a whole, and in your specific market.
