1) Discover Hong Kong Company Formation & Its Startup Scene (INFOGRAPHIC)

What you need to know about the Hong Kong startup scene - infographic

Next to Singapore, Hong Kong has established itself as one of Asia's premier business hubs for foreigners looking to take advantage of its low tax rates, modern infrastructure and ease of company set up by choosing Hong Kong company formation there.

However, 'the Pearl of The Orient' is also making headway to join the former in the race to becoming one of Asia's startup capitals.

A recent 65-page report by Compass describes Hong Kong's tech startup ecosystem as having “great potential for acceleration, building on unique strengths”. The report goes into detail about some of the city's strengths such as its ease of company setup, access to capital and its close proximity to manufacturing hub, Shenzhen.

Learn why Hong Kong offers so many benefits to your business by downloading your FREE copy of "The Foreign Company's Guide To Starting A Business In Hong Kong" eBook here.

The folks over at TechInAsia went through the effort of breaking down the report in an infographic that covers the facts, ecosystem value, strengths and weaknesses of Hong Kong company formation, and much more about the ecosystem for startups in Hong Kong.

2) Doing Business in China: Don’t Bribe Anyone, Even Indirectly

When in doubt don't

Because this blog is more than ten years old, there is hardly a China business or law situation of which we have not written at least once. Last week, one of our China lawyers got an email from a company wanting to hire us because they needed help finding someone to bribe someone in China because “it would be too risky for us to do it ourselves.”

It reminded me of a previous email (which had not been to me, but which I thought I remembered from a blog post, and I was right. That post was from April, 2014, and it was entitled, Dude, Didn’t Your Mamma Tell You Not To Engage in China Bribery Through Intermediaries? Rather than craft a new blog post, I will simply borrow from the old one, because nothing has changed. Or one might say that a lot has changed because China itself has massively stepped up its own anti-corruption enforcement.

3) Why And How To Do A China Trademark Search

Why And How To Do A China Trademark Search

There are almost countless tales now of foreign companies in China being caught out by not having undertaken China trademark registration in good time, or at all!

Had they done a China trademark search this disaster could perhaps have been avoided, as they'd have had prior warning that they were sailing into stormy waters.

But what is it about trademark law in China that makes doing a search in advance of registering your own, or perhaps even deciding to enter the China market for the first time, so important?

Let's look in more detail here...

4) Net-based healthcare services set to flourish in China

Like many people in China, Chen Hua (not her real name), a 60-year-old resident of Guangdong province, used to hate visiting hospitals because she had to wait in serpentine queues every time she required to see a doctor, pay medical bills and buy the prescribed drugs from the hospital pharmacy.

But now, she has a better alternative. Chen visits a nearby drugstore where she gets to interact with doctors at big hospitals via video calls. Using online tools, the drugstore people transmit readings of her blood pressure and temperature to the doctors concerned.

Chen recently suffered from backache and had an online diagnosis with a doctor from the Guangdong Internet Hospital, which is operated by the Second People's Hospital of Guangdong province.

"The doctor prescribed medication online, which I could immediately buy," she said, "Previously, it took me four fours to see a doctor, but now the entire process takes less than10 minutes."

Chen is among a growing number of patients who are benefiting from the country's booming internet-based or online medical services. Technology companies are rushing to revolutionize the sector by partnering with public hospitals and acquiring private ones.
